Love is calling

Today a quote from one of my sources of inspiration floated into my consciousness

“Work is love made visible.  And if you can’t work with love, but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit and the gate of the temple and take alms of the people who work with joy”

So said the poet Kahlil Gibran in the book The Prophet back in 1923.

I am sure this is my stern, serious guide sending me a rather blunt message to kick me up the proverbial. Yes it is a struggle when you are ready to leave one place and move onto another, yes I do need to find more grace (I hear you) but today I am choosing to concentrate on the energy of the first sentence.

“Work is love made visible”.

Manifesting love and joy through what we do.  Finding something we love.  Or loving what it is that we do whatever life chooses to give us.  This has been an aspiration of mine, my mountain to climb since I started work, to find a job I love, that creates love.

Something of a theory or a wondering for me has been are our career choices an expression of what our soul, our higher self wants to do? Is it a case of sometimes we do not hear it correctly or mis-intepret its meaning?  I’ve always felt HR was this for me. It’s a job centred around people and support people through various different techniques and tools to develop skills and experience, an expression of helping people, sometimes a little skewed but certainly around being integral to that development.  What I want to do next is another expression of this, another perspective, whether it is the last one in the lifetime is not known but I do believe that underneath it the tone has not changed.  It just might be an octave higher (or lower depending on your view)  This is why the term “vocation” or “calling” is so important to me.  It contains that vocal analogy and I think that the soul’s calling may be the specific “tone”.

The other questions I ask myself is are more people hearing their call of their soul?  What can help them hear it better, more clearly?  What tools and techniques, if I transpose the experience of HR, can we us to faciliate the quality of reception?

Because like Khalil, I believe that the work we do, however you define it, is actually our natural state of joy and when we find the clearest expression of our soul we can manifest love and make it visible.
